Description
The three masted schooner A E Vickery was built at Three Mile Bay, NY in 1861. An incompetent river pilot ran the Vickery on a shoal when entering the American Narrows. The 136 foot schooner slipped off shoal and sank soon afterwards. The Vickery was carrying a cargo of corn and was bound for Prescott, Ontario.
Normally buoyed and located along side Rock Island Reef Light, divers can follow the buoy line into a very quick surface current onto the shoal head in 25-30 ft. of water. The bow of the Vickery lies about 10-15 ft. away at a depth of 65 feet.
